National Men's Health Week

Men, you have my permission to cry.

Multiple studies suggest that men globally would be identified as highly affected by mental health issues if more men were stepping forward and seeking help.

More specifically, Black men do not seek help because the culture has told them it's a sign of weakness. They have been taught from birth to protect their clan, stand tall, and proudly represent their race; weakness is unacceptable! A man cannot cry, be vulnerable or have any mental disorder.

Men's Mental Health
Black man and mental health

A man must be the man of the household and take care of the family; he's the head of the home there is no room for failure. But as shown in the links below, men, especially those over 45, are more likely to take their own lives than women. Men suffer more because of the fear of coming forward and admitting that something is wrong. Black culture and society need to give our men a break.

We need to stop placing such high expectations on men forcing them to play the roles of superheroes when they are crying and dying in silence.

Even Jesus, who was both man and God, wept! 🤷🏽‍♀️
